Solutions
COLUMBIA takes a strategic, full-lifecycle approach to environmental remediation. Our approach is highly collaborative, multi-faceted, delivered on a global scale, and driven by the high-resolution data and 3D analyses that enables precise, high-quality remediation of toxic sites. On every engagement, we work with our clients to achieve five, key objectives:
- Effectively serve the needs of stakeholders.
- Enable reuse of a site for work and living for the long-term.
- Deliver the best possible Remedial Design Characterization and inform the site remediation approach.
- Achieve all sustainability goals at the lowest possible cost.
- Enable a flawless remediation of the site.
Key deliverables during the remediation process include:
-
An initial operational, financial, and risk management plan that defines key processes decision points in the remediation project.
-
A data package that includes a high-resolution Remedial Design Characterization, a bioremediation assessment, an interpretive technical report, and a 3D model of the site
-
A comprehensive financial and operational assessment that outlines the defined quality objectives, technical strategies, projected financial impact, trade-offs, and risks associated of multiple remediation approaches and recommends the appropriate approach
-
A detailed remediation plan for the selected approach
-
Real-time reporting to stakeholders focused on operational progress and ongoing costs as the remediation project progresses.
-
Regulatory support throughout the remediation process focused on reducing operational risk, keeping the local community informed, providing information to regulators on the progress and completion of the remedation effort, and providing documentation that supports regulatory approval for site reuse.
-
A final report that details the entire remediation process and project results.
-
Documentation to support the regulatory approval process.

Our Methodology
Our delivery methodology has five stages:
1. Assess & Plan
Work with site owners to discover known data about a site and use our subject matter expertise to develop a gap analysis informed assessment approach for identifying and developing remediation plans aligned with stakeholder goals with lowest possible risk and cost.
2. High-Res Site Characterization
Identify and analyze the level, location, and movement of toxins in soil and groundwater using multiple lines of evidence including high resolution sensor technologies and our proprietary SmartData Solutions® real-time 3D analytics platform. Deliver a data package and interpretive report that documents the location and level of toxins on the site.
3. Remediation Alternatives Assessment
Complete a detailed financial and operational analysis of remedial alternatives based on the toxins involved, site geology, biochemistry, available technologies, likely operating costs, sustainability impacts, and anticipated reuse of the land. Provide a recommended approach that provides the best possible outcomes for the lowest projected cost.
4. Remediate Site
Develop a detailed project plan and then execute a highly targeted clean-up of toxins on the site based on the data from the Remedial Design Characterization and findings from the Remediation Alternatives Assessment. We deploy multiple technologies through the stages of the cleanup and use our SmartData Solutions® platform and sensing technologies to verify the quality and completeness of the site clean-up.
5. Stakeholder & Regulatory Support
Provide reporting, supporting data, and visualizations that meet the needs of stakeholders and enable regulators to certify that a site as safe and approve it for reuse.
